The Future of Rental: Why Growth Demands Change and How Dealers Can Lead the Way

September 18, 2025

“Growth and comfort cannot coexist.”

This quote from a former CEO of mine has stuck with me for years, and it couldn’t be more relevant to the journey of Integrated Rental and now to the next chapter we’ve begun as part of VitalEdge.

Last week, I transitioned from CEO of Integrated Rental (IR) to President of Expansion Markets at VitalEdge. Like any period of growth, it comes with new systems to learn, new acronyms to master, and new colleagues to collaborate with. And while there’s always a little discomfort in change, it’s the kind that signals growth, for our team, for our products, and most importantly, for our dealers.

Why Rental Is Different

At IR, we built our business by challenging assumptions about rental and pushing dealers to be better rental operators. We debated (sometimes fiercely) the gamut of operational and system issues including but not limited to why rental should not sit under sales, why dedicated service techs are essential for maximizing utilization and decreasing turn around time, and why the strategies that take you from A to B won’t always get you to C.

Rental requires a different mindset. It demands investment, new ways of thinking, and the willingness to make structural changes that can feel uncomfortable at first. Dealers who embrace this mindset see greater utilization, higher profitability, and stronger customer loyalty.

The IR Approach

Integrated Rental grew not through outside funding or debt, but by partnering deeply with dealers, listening to their needs, and building solutions that solved real operational challenges. Those partnerships and the referrals they generated were our growth engine.

That focus isn’t changing. We are still the same team that rolls up our sleeves and works side by side with dealers to solve problems and push best practices forward.

What Changes With VitalEdge – And What Doesn’t

What changes is the scale of the opportunity we can now pursue.

VitalEdge is a global leader in ERP and DMS platforms, with 800 employees, secure and scalable applications, and a track record of empowering dealer growth. By joining forces, IR now has the resources to accelerate our product roadmap — including our AI initiatives — and the reach to expand into new markets worldwide.

What doesn’t change is our commitment to you. We’ll continue to innovate in rental, continue to champion best practices, and continue to work with you as trusted partners in growth.

What This Means for Dealers

For dealers, this partnership translates to:

  • Faster innovation: A stronger product roadmap, including AI-driven rental insights.
  • Connected operations: Tighter integration between rental, ERP, and DMS for end-to-end efficiency.
  • Proven partnership: The same team you know, with even greater backing to help you succeed.

Looking Ahead

As Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.”

That is exactly how I see the road ahead. This is a moment for growth, for our team, for VitalEdge, and for every dealer that believes rental is the future. There will be moments that stretch us, but each will be an opportunity to learn, improve, and move forward stronger.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Here’s to embracing growth, even when it feels uncomfortable and to building the future of rental together.

Cheers to past and future successes,

Alise Moncure
